Is it legal for my manager to reduce my salary without notice?

I'm working in an IT company in Gurgaon, and suddenly my manager informed me that my salary would be reduced by 20% starting next month. I received no prior notice or explanation. I feel this is unfair and I don't know what my legal rights are in this situation. Can my employer do this without any prior communication? What steps should I take to address this legally?
